Ryde School’s music department offers pupils from the age of 2.5 to 18 the opportunity to experience practical music-making through the provision of individual and group lessons, supported by a dedicated group of visiting self-employed peripatetic teachers.
Many opportunities for group music-making exist throughout the School including choirs, orchestras, swing band, brass, flute, string, percussion, and recorder groups. Theory and Aural lessons are offered in preparation for the Grade 5 theory examination and grades 6 – 8 aural tests. All sections of the School stage a number of concerts and musicals each year – the Senior School have recently staged Little Shop of Horrors and past musicals have included Beauty and the Beast, West Side Story and Sweeney Todd. Each Summer the department runs a Concert Tour to Europe featuring Choir, Orchestra and Swing Band. This Summer 64 pupils will travel to Croatia and Slovenia.
Music Scholarships are available for year 7, 9 and 12 entry. Please apply to the school for more details
